As fans of small, independent businesses, when we spotted Jars Meze, a family owned Greek restaurant in Bath, it caught our attention immediately.
The restaurant itself is one of Bath’s hidden gems, tucked away out of sight on Northumberland Place. Even standing outside, you can feel how warm and inviting they are as not only a restaurant, but as a group of family and friends working together to bring that feeling of home to anyone who enters through their doors.
The tables are small and lit by warm glowing candles, giving the whole room a cosy, intimate atmosphere, and everyone you interact with gives you a sincere smile – they truly are happy to have you with them.

They have a superb wine list, and their entire meze menu is very reasonably priced, especially when you take into consideration the decent portion sizes and excellent quality of the food. The menu truly goes beyond accommodating for any and every dietary requirement and specification, which further pushes my point of how when you dine at Jars Meze, you are treated as a member of their family – they want you to leave happy, full and completely satisfied.
The dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious. From my vegetarian Gigantes from Prespes (butter beans in a tomato sauce with feta and spinach) to Izaac’s Garides Saganaki (oven cooked prawns in a chilli and garlic tomato sauce, baked with feta and kefalotyri cheese). We also ordered chips, halloumi, creamy tzatziki and their Special JarJam (a tomato, ginger and chilli jam) with warm pitta chips, and nothing disappointed. Everything was fresh, rich and exactly what we’d hoped for when we sat down.
I would absolutely recommend Jars Meze, not just for the home-cooked food, but for the warming, wholesome atmosphere that you’ll find there. It really is the perfect scenery for anyone who wants to experience a taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle without the hassle and cost of flying out.
